All 250 of the George Follmer Edition vehicles will feature a host of modern automotive engineering technologies, built by Saleen. Starting with the Naturally Aspirated 302 cubic inch V8, Saleen has completely reworked the top-end creating a hi-revving masterpiece that seemingly always has power on standby.

Fully Adjustable Coil-Over Suspension

Keeping with the racetrack heritage and authenticity, the Saleen | Follmer Edition comes fully equipped with and adjustable track-tuned suspension worthy of the best modern day racer. Utilizing billet aluminum camber plates and a banded thrust bearing on top of the upper spring creates a smooth driving experience, regardless of speed. A dual bearing configuration in the camber plate delivers 2 degrees of additional camber and incredible stability. Complimenting this technical specification is the perfect blend of valving and spring rate to deliver a vehicle that is as comfortable on the track as it is cruising in your neighborhood.

 

 

 

 

Saleen Watts Linkage

Complimenting the Coil-Over suspension is a Saleen Watts Linkage managing weight and power transfer while cornering. Keeping with the authenticity as a road racing machine, the Saleen | Follmer Edition maintains incredible road contact through two suspension linkages connecting at a rear differential pivot point. As a complete suspension package, this Saleen Heritage Collection model is a perfect balance of power, performance and technology in one complete package. This road track proven technology gives the driver quicker cornering ability and better steering feel all while maintaining a smooth comfortable ride.

 

 

AUTHENTIC STYLING

 

The Saleen | Follmer Edition was designed and engineered to retain the authentic lineage of the original 1969 factory backed racer. Setting off the authentic styling cues is the complete Saleen paint scheme that is in the same identity as the original. For this we use our Saleen Colorlab to carefully perform a custom paint on each Saleen GF we manufacture. Everything from the White painted roof and Black painted hood and upper body, right down to the contrast pinstriping is all performed as part of our manufacturing process on this vehicle. Additional styling abounds on the interior with the exclusive GF Edition interior treatment that is reminiscent of yesteryears model with modern conveniences.

 

 

 

CELEBRATION OF MAN & MACHINE

 

The GF Edition Mustang remembers one of the most successful racing drivers of this era, George Follmer. Follmer has been described as the go-to wheelman when the pressure was on and races needed to be won. The Saleen | Follmer Edition Mustang is styled from the #16 1969 Boss 302 Mustang that George Follmer campaigned the same year. Coincidentally, 1969 also marks the first year Ford Motor Company debuted and campaigned the Boss 302 Mustang. Mechanically advanced Saleen technology can be found throughout this 2014 Saleen | Follmer edition including a naturally aspirated 495+HP (estimated) 302 high revving 4-Valve V8 engine, track tuned suspension, and a 6-speed manual transmission.

 

GEORGE FOLLMER BIOGRAPHY

 

George Follmer was one of many US drivers who entered motor sport during the 1960’s, but unlike so many, Follmer quickly demonstrated just how talented he was, winning the 1972 Can-Am series, making his debut in Formula One racing in 1973, and winning the SCCA Trans-Am Championship in 1972 & 1976. Prior to racing he was technically an insurance salesman before acquiring a Los Angeles area tire distributorship from Firestone.

 

Introduced to his first race in the 1950’s, where he drove passed a gymkhana challenge in his Porsche, entered and won. After his first race (and win) he was hooked on motorsport and began racing as an amateur in SCCA events through the early 1960’s, retired when he found out racing cost money; only to later emerge in a big way with a championship in the 1965 SCCA Road Racing series.

 

He’s the second half of the Parnelli Jones-George Follmer rack ‘em and stack ‘em Bud Moore Ford Mustang Team. Follmer began his Trans-Am career with Roger Penske’s Camaro’s in 1967, moved to Javelin’s in 1968, and finally the Boss 302 Mustangs in 1969. During the ’69 race season he won at Bridgehampton, held multiple pole positions and led many of the Trans-Am championship races.

 

George Follmer has had success in multiple series including: 1966-73 Can-Am, 1969-1981 SCCA Trans-Am, 1967-71 & 74 USAC Champ Car, 1969-71 Indy Car, 1973 Formula One, 1974 NASCAR Winston Cup, 1974-75 IROC, 1986 24 Hours of Lemans, and currently still competes in vintage racing events. In 1987-88, he also drove for Saleen as a factory driver, where he helped them bring home a championship in 1987. Inducted into the Motorsport hall of fame in 1999, Follmer is known to drive any competitive car offered to him and once he gets behind the wheel, he’ll be close to Victory Circle at the end. He tends to look sern, tends to emulate his teamate (Jones) by walking around with his arms folded, but smile at him, he’ll smile back.
