All 250 of the Mark Donohue Edition vehicles will feature a host of modern automotive engineering technologies, built by Saleen. Starting with the Naturally Aspirated 6.2 liter V8 engine, Saleen has completely reworked the top-end creating a hi-revving masterpiece that seemingly always has power on standby.

SUPERIOR HANDLING

 

Fully Adjustable Coil-Over Suspension

Keeping with the racetrack heritage and authenticity, the Saleen | Donohue Edition comes fully equipped with and adjustable track-tuned suspension worthy of the best modern day racer. Utilizing billet aluminum camber plates and a banded thrust bearing on top of the upper spring creates a smooth driving experience, regardless of speed. A dual bearing configuration in the camber plate delivers 2 degrees of additional camber and incredible stability. Complimenting this technical specification is the perfect blend of valving and spring rate to deliver a vehicle that is as comfortable on the track as it is cruising in your neighborhood.

 

 

 

 

Modern Saleen Exterior

The Saleen Donohue Edition utilizes a host of modern Saleen styling and technology, giving the MD Edition a retro-modern feel and function that is worthy of the Saleen badge. Adorning the rear deck is a '69 styled rear spoiler that works in conjunction with the Saleen rear diffuser to create a balance of 'push & pull' downforce aerodynamics. Continuing to the front of the vehicle is an exclusive 'Rally' style hood designed with low resistance and breath-ability for the 6.2 liter naturally aspirated powerplant. Further functional aesthetics include the Saleen dual exhaust system providing just the right amount of 'rumble' and flow through the Heritage Collection specific louvered exhaust tips.

 

 

AUTHENTIC STYLING

 

The Saleen | Donohue Edition was designed and engineered to retain the authentic lineage of the original 1969 factory backed racer. Setting off the authentic styling cues is the complete Saleen paint scheme that is in the same identity as the original. For this we use our Saleen Colorlab to carefully perform a custom paint on each Saleen MD we manufacture. Everything from the 'Minilite' inspired 19" wheels, to the exclusive Donohue Edition '69 styled exterior accents, right down to the contrast pinstriping is all performed as part of our manufacturing process on this vehicle. Additional styling abounds on the interior with the exclusive MD Edition interior treatment that is reminiscent of yesteryears model with modern conveniences.

 

 

 

CELEBRATION OF MAN & MACHINE

 

The MD Edition Camaro commemorates the diverse and successful racing career of Mark Donohue. As a major competitor during the SCCA Trans-Am series of the late 1960’s, Donohue was known to strategize every aspect of his race vehicle from engineering setup to driving toward each victory. The Saleen | Donohue Edition Camaro is largely queued from the #6 1969 Camaro that sparked the flame of major competition for the racing series and claimed the season championship that same year.

 

MARK DONOHUE BIOGRAPHY

 

Very little else can be said about this racing icon who is known for his ability to set up his own race car as well as driving it to victories. Donohue is probably best known as the driver of the 1500+ bhp “Can-Am Killer” Porsche 917-30, winning the 1972 Indianapolis 500, and dominating the Trans-Am Series through the 1960’s-70’s. A 1959 graduate of Brown University with a degree in mechanical engineering, Donohue began racing as a college senior in his 1957 Corvette.

 

Cars that Donohue raced include: AMC Javelin, AMC Matador, Chevrolet Camaro, Eagle-Offy, Elva Courier, Ford GT-40 MK IV, Ferrari 250LM, Ferrari 512, Lola T70, Lola T330, Lotus 20, McLaren M16, Porsche 911, Porsche 917/10, Porsche 917/30, Shelby Cobra, and Shelby Mustang GT350R.

 

Through the early 1960’s, Donohue began quickly climbing the ranks of multiple SCCA racing series. Shortly after the inaugural season in 1966, Donohue – who always looked for a way to prepare his cars with an “unfair advantage” –dominated the Trans-Am Series and won three (1967-1968 & 1971) championships in the factory-sponsored Chevrolet Camaros and AMC Javelins. Although the Trans-Am is a series for manufacturers, Donohue won 10 of 13 races in 1968, a Trans-Am series record which would stand until Tommy Kendall went 11 for 13 in the 1997 Trans-Am championship.

Donohue also proved successful in a multitude of racing series including: 1973 when he won the NASCAR Cup Series race on the road course at Riverside, winning the Indianapolis 500 in 1972, dominating the 1973 Can-Am series (for the season win), and winning all but one of the 1973/974 IROC series races (The only person to beat Donohue was his former Penske Trans-Am teammate, George Follmer.)

 

Midway through the 1975 F1 season, Donohue recently had arrived in Austria for the Austrian Grand Prix, during a practice session for the race, Donohue lost control of his March after a tire failed, sending him careening into the catch fencing at the fastest corner on the track. As a result of the accident, Donohue succumbed to his injuries the next day. Well respected by his peers and loved by his fans, Donohue’s legacy continues to inspire the racing community.
